Flex: Differences Between v1.0 and v2.0

The future of Flex in the Without Code builder is one where the powerful responsive features of Flex are integrated into the builder in a seamless and unobtrusive way. This means that when you're not working in Flex, the editor appears as it always has – and when you need the responsive power of Flex, those options are still at your fingertips.

Flex v2.0

Flex v2.0 was introduced on July 18, 2022. Any site created after this date will use Flex v2.0. Additionally, any time Flex is added to an older site that has not had Flex previously, it will be Flex v2.0.

Flex 2.0 is the latest version of Flex, and is more seamlessly integrated into the classic editor. It uses more predefined components so that users can create and edit responsive designs quickly. Rather than using a grid to place objects in, users can now add columns which act as a layout to place widgets in. The columns use auto-layout, which allows objects to look great on each breakpoint without extra editing.

Flex v1.0

Flex v1.0 is the original build of Flex, and the version found in any instance of Flex prior to July 18, 2022. Templates or sections created previously will continue to be edited using Flex v1.0. Flex sections cannot be upgraded from v1.0 to v2.0 at this time.

Flex v1.0 uses a separate mode of the editor called "Flex Mode". Working in the Flex and the classic editor requires switching editor modes. Flex v1.0 currently has all of the power and functionality of Flex v2.0 but you must work in Flex Mode.

Flex Indicators

If you're working in Flex v1.0, you will see a "Flex 1.0 Section" indicator in sections and in the Layers panel. Flex v2.0 (and later) sections  will simply use a "Flex Section" indicator – indicating the latest version.

Which Version is Better?

Technically, Flex v2.0 is not more powerful, nor does it have features that Flex v1.0 does not have. However, v2.0 uses smoother integration with the classic editor, which will result in a more seamless workflow as you switch in and out of Flex editing.

Note that going forward, future updates and improvements will be added only to Flex v2.0 and versioning will proceed upward from 2.0.
