Ecommerce: Connect and Sell on Facebook

Note: this feature is only available with the Ecommerce hosting plan and higher.

You can integrate your store with the Facebook business page Shop section, allowing you to automatically upload and sync your product catalog. All products and orders are managed through your store and this shop can be viewed on all devices and there is a Facebook app available for mobile.

Connect Store to Facebook

First, make sure that you meet the following requirements:

  • You have a published Facebook page for your business and the account includes an admin role. Resources:
  • Your products comply with the Facebook policies and guidelines. Resources:
  • The default currency set in your store is supported by Facebook. This can be set within your settings (“Settings” – “General” – “Regional Settings”) Resources:
  • Your products require shipping (i.e. they aren’t digital products)
  • Your products aren’t free

If your business and Facebook page meet the above, you can proceed to connect your store.

Note: if you have an existing Shop section on Facebook, this will override existing products

To connect:

  1. Select the Ecommerce tab from the left menu and open your store.
  2. Under Sales Channels, click “Facebook” and click to connect your page
  3. Pick the Facebook business page where you want to sell. Click “Save.”

Note: you can only connect one Store Facebook business page. If you have several stores they will each require their own Facebook page.

  1. Accept the terms.

Your store will sync all enabled products and Facebook will review (view the review status under “Pending review”) Once you’ve received approval you can begin selling and marketing. You may see products show up in your shop section before the approval, but these won’t be visible to customers until you’ve received approval.

Syncing/Updating Products

Once you upload your products to Facebook, the store will automatically sync every 12 hours to ensure customer’s see the most up-to-date offerings on Facebook (i.e. if you make changes to an existing product details in the store, the product will automatically update on Facebook following the sync).

If you need to show an update prior to the next sync, you can do a manual sync. In your store, under Sales Channels, click “Facebook” and select “Sync Products.”

Products and Collections

There are a few considerations regarding listings on Facebook:

Products

  1. If a product is marked “Enabled” in your store, it will automatically display in your Facebook Shop.
  2. If a product is marked as “Enabled” in your store but is assigned to a disabled category, it will not display in your Facebook Shop.
  3. If a product is marked as “Disabled” in your store, it will not display in your Facebook Shop.
  4. If your product is marked as “Enabled” and featured in your main store page, it will display in a “Featured Products” section on Facebook.
  5. Facebook allows up to 20 images/product; the first 20 images in the store will be uploaded.

Collections

  1. Within the Facebook shop, products will be organized into “Collections” (similar to the store’s “Categories”). These collections are top-level so products from your sub-categories will be grouped under these top-level collections on Facebook.
  2. Using your store’s categories, Facebook will automatically create a collection.
  3. To control the visibility, define the specific products that appear, and make changes to products from within the Store. You can’t create a new collection and existing ones can’t be editing on Facebook.
  4. You can also use your Facebook Shop to set up ads on Facebook. Read more about ads here.

Facebook Shop Checkout

If a customer finds a product through your Facebook shop and they click to purchase, they will be taken to the store on your website for the checkout process. Customers can only click one item at a time and then can use your store to purchase more items; this is because Facebook does not have a shopping cart (i.e. they can’t select multiple items through Facebook).

Processing Facebook Orders

Order confirmation emails will come through the store, and you can view orders by clicking on “My Sales.” Orders placed on Facebook won’t have any label to indicate they were purchased elsewhere; they will appear the same as any other order, however, when someone places an order via Facebook, you will get an email or notification from your app (depending on what you have set up).

Disabling/Hiding the Facebook Shop

You can disconnect or hide your store if you want to stop selling on Facebook.

To hide the Facebook shop tab on your business page:

  1. Click Settings and select “Templates and Tabs.”
  2. Next to the “Shop” tab, select “Settings.”
  3. Toggle “Show Shop tab” to off.

The shop will no longer be visible from your Facebook page menu, but it hasn’t been closed and you can still tag products on Instagram. Unhide the store by scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking “Add tab.”

To disable/disconnect the shop completely and remove it from your page:

  1. In your website store, select the Ecommerce tab from the left menu and open your store.
  2. Under Sales Channels, click “Facebook” and click to connect your page
  3. Under the “Status” drop-down, select “Disconnect.”

This will clear all settings and completely delete the catalog from your Facebook shop. Products added to the store will no longer sync to the Facebook shop. You can reconnect this by going through the set-up steps above.

Note: You may have Facebook Pixel or Instagram tagging set up for your catalog; disconnecting the store may delete this data.

Facebook Shop FAQ

Why was my store application rejected?

This may be because your products don’t comply with Facebook policies. You can appeal this decision here.

Why are there duplicate products in my Facebook Shop?

This is likely because your products contain variations that have individual SKUs. Facebook will treat each SKU as a separate item. These duplicate items will only be visible to the admin account; try viewing the Facebook shop in incognito mode to see if the products show up properly.

You can also try re-syncing your store and Facebook shop.

Why are product categories missing?

This is likely because some products are assigned to subcategories. If any enabled products are assigned to subcategories, Facebook will group these into a separate collection. E.g. if you have a primary category – pants – and two subcategories – pants for women and pants for men – Facebook will create two collections: Pants: Pants for women and Pants: Pants for men.

The Pants for Women subcategory may also have child subcategories, such as different sizes and colors. These products from child subcategories will be grouped under the same collection (Pants: Pants for women).

Why aren't options showing up for my products?

This is likely because a product in your store has a listed variation of “any choice.” Product variations (e.g. size or color) are uploaded to your Facebook shop with relevant options, but if you’ve listed this as “any choice” in your store, Facebook won’t show these.

To edit these, view our Product Variations doc.

How do I hide products or categories?

This isn’t currently possible. All enabled products uploaded from your store to Facebook will be visible so if you do want to hide a product on Facebook you will need to disable it on your store as well.

How can a customer on Facebook select multiple products to check out?

Customers can’t select more than one product from your Facebook shop, but they can change the quantity of the one product. In order to purchase multiple products, they will need to do this from the store (when they click to checkout from Facebook, they will be routed to your store so this should be fairly seamless).

Will hidden store products and categories sync with Facebook?

No, any products or categories you’ve chosen to hide in your store will not sync.

Can I tag Facebook Shop products on Instagram?

Yes, read more about selling on Instagram here.

Why can't I see my Facebook page when trying to connect through my website's store?

When you try to connect to Facebook through your store, you should see your Facebook business page as an option to select. If you don’t see this, it may be because your page isn’t published, or you don’t have an admin role. Visit our Connect Store to Facebook section above.

Alternatively, you may need to give your store permission to manage the Facebook page. To do this:

  1. Visit your Facebook profile, locate “Settings” and click “Business Integrations.”
  2. Select the storefront icon.
  3. Under “Manage your pages,” check for the missing page.
  4. If you can’t locate the missing page, return to the settings section and remove the storefront integration.
  5. Reconnect Facebook through your website store (steps above).

Can I rearrange my Facebook Shop tab?

Yes, you can move this tab as desired. To move:

  1. Visit your Facebook business page
  2. Click “Settings” and select “Edit page” in the upper right hand corner.
  3. Click the shop tab and drag and drop as desired.

Can I display the Facebook Shop on my main Facebook page?

This option is controlled algorithmically by Facebook, and although it may be displayed here, you can’t control this. You may see the shop section in your Home tab, but this is just because you are an admin; your customers won’t see this.

The shop section may be displayed because you don’t have any other activity and Facebook has chosen to show this.

One option to highlight the shop is to share products to your timeline; this may encourage visitors to click on your shop tab to view full catalog.
