Ecommerce: Configuring Taxes

You can set proper tax rates for your store or for individual items in your store. As well, this can be done automatically or manually based on destination or product.

Setting a New Tax Rate

  1. Select the Ecommerce tab from the left menu and open your store.
  2. Click on “Settings,” and “Taxes” and choose from the following options:
    • Automatic: select “enable” next to this option. Read more about Automatic Tax Calculations.
    • Manual: select “Manage Tax Rates” to set rates based on destination or product.
  3. If you choose the manual option, click “+Add New Tax” and configure the following:
    • Tax Name: Desired name
    • Tax applies to: Choose subtotal, subtotal and shipping, or include tax in the price.
    • Zone defines by: Choose shipping or billing address. Read more about managing zones to add taxes.
    • Rates per zone: Define relevant rates/zone and click “Add Rate.”

NOTES

  • If you create a tax rate based on the destination, this won’t show until checkout.
  • You can create a rate that applies to multiple regions. Simply create a zone that includes all regions.
  • Taxes will be calculated by the store, which will use the configured tax rate list, locate the relevant rate and apply it. You can create a general rate for all other zones (e.g. you can create tax rates for relevant zones, but include a rate for “Canada” in general at the bottom of the list. The store will use the Canada rate for all regions except those defined by specific zones).
  • The store includes a pre-defined “Other Zones” to apply a tax rate for any zones not included.

Adding a Product Tax Rate

To add a tax rate for an individual product:

  1. Select the Ecommerce tab from the left menu and open your store.
  2. Click on “Catalog,” and “Products.”
  3. Locate the relevant product and click “Edit Product.”
  4. Select “Tax and Shipping.”
  5. Switch the desired tax rate to “Enabled” or if you wish to remove any taxes, choose “Disable.”
  6. Save.
