Ecommerce: Gift Cards

You can sell gift cards through your store for any amount (the range is defined by you) and the card will be delivered to your customer through email.

To enable gift cards:

  1. Select the Ecommerce tab from the left menu and open your store.
  2. Click on “Catalog” and select “Gift Cards.”
  3. Select “Create Gift Card.”
  4. You can also select “Edit Settings” which will give the following options:
    • Name: whatever you want for the gift card
    • Amounts: default amounts will be set
    • Image: choose an image to display in the store (this won’t be the image that shows in the email confirmation
    • Description: add any information that might help customers
    • Categories: select the category pages where you want gift cards to show
    • Expiry: set an expiration period (by default they will be set to never expire; ensure that you are complying with local law regarding gift card expiry)

To disable gift cards:

  1. Click on “Catalog” and select “Gift Cards.”
  2. Adjust the status to “Disabled.”

Note: this won’t affect the status of previously sold gift cards. They can still be redeemed in your store.

Gift Card Purchases

Following the purchase of a gift card, customers will receive an email with their unique code and instructions. To redeem the gift card, the customer simply needs to enter the code in the relevant field at checkout (this field will appear when you set up gift cards in your store).

The card can be used for multiple orders if any balance remains on the card.

Notes:

  • Only one gift card can be used per order
  • Gift cards are not sold tax free
  • Gift cards can’t be sold or uploaded to Instagram of Facebook

Information on Sold Gift Cards

You can view details on the gift cards already purchased by customers:

  1. Select the Ecommerce tab from the left menu and open your store.
  2. Click on “Catalog” and select “Gift Cards.”
  3. You’ll see a section on statistics including:
    • Revenue: total amount earned
    • Redeemed: total balance spent
    • Unclaimed: unused balance that can no longer be redeemed
    • Outstanding balance, lifetime: remaining balance that can be redeemed
  1. You can view details on each individual card that has been sold by selecting “View and manage all sold gift cards.”

Providing Gift Card Numbers When Lost

If a customer accidentally deletes the email containing their gift card number you can easily resend this:

  1. Select the Ecommerce tab from the left menu and open your store.
  2. Select “View and manage all sold gift cards.”
  3. Locate the relevant card, select “Actions” and then “Resend gift card.”

Note: If the customer didn’t receive the gift card because they entered their email incorrectly, you will need to send a free gift card (scroll to the Free Gift Cards section below).

Disable Individual Gift Cards

If you need to deactivate a gift card:

  1. Select the Ecommerce tab from the left menu and open your store.
  2. Select “View and manage all sold gift cards.”
  3. Locate the relevant gift card, select “current status” and “Deactivate.” (you can reactivate from here as well)

Sending Free Gift Cards

You can send a gift card for any amount to a customer by purchasing the gift card yourself without payment and sending the relevant code to the customer.

  1. Select the Ecommerce tab from the left menu and open your store.
  2. Ensure offline payments are enabled
    • Click “Payment,” “+Add Manual Payment Method”
    • Add a name for this method and click save
  3. Add a gift card to your cart and place the order using the new payment method.
  4. Select “My Sales” and “Orders.”
  5. Locate your order and set the order status to “Paid.” This will prompt the store to send an gift card to your email.
  6. Send the email or the code to your customer.
