Ecommerce: Add Delivery Zones

When setting shipping options, the “All Destinations” zone will be set by default. This means that customers can choose shipping to any location in the world.

You can restrict the locations you ship to by defining a zone on the map (usually used for local delivery) or select the region/country/states from the lists or limit zone by zip codes.

Use Zone on the Map

  1. Select the Ecommerce tab from the left menu and open your store.
  2. Click on “Shipping & Pickup.” And select the shipping method you want to create a zone for.
  3. Select “Delivery zone,” “Zone on Map” and click “Create Zone.”
  4. Use the handles to resize the zone you wish to deliver to for this method.

If you have entered an address in the “Shipping Origin” section on the Shipping & Pickup page, that address will be pinned on the map. Right click on the created zone to see the distance you deliver in KM.

If you use the same delivery rate for up to 20 different locations, click “+Add new zone” and create the new zone.

Use Countries, States, or Postal/ZIP Codes

This option ensures that if a customer enters an address within your zone, they will see various options. If they enter an address outside of the zone, they will see a message that says “Sorry, we don’t ship to this location” and won’t be able to order.

  1. Select the Ecommerce tab from the left menu and open your store.
  2. Click on “Shipping & Pickup” and select the shipping method. Or, alternatively, click “Settings,” select “Taxes” and “Manage Tax Rates.”
  3. Select “Manage Zones.”
  4. Click on “Add New Zone.”
  5. Select “Add Country,” pick a specific country from the list and click “Add countries.” Alternatively, use “Add Region” to select multiple countries from a certain region.
  6. Select “Add State,” pick the state from the list and click “Add States.” Leave this option blank if you will ship to all states.

Note: If you are using a region as your zone be sure to add relevant states for each country within the region.

  1. Enter “Zip/Postal codes” to restrict to specific areas. Use wildcard symbols to create this list.
  2. “Save.”

Repeat these steps for each zone you want to offer a different shipping rate for.

Assign a Zone to an Individual Shipping Option

If you want to add or remove a zone for a specific shipping option you can update the delivery zone:

  1. Select the Ecommerce tab from the left menu and open your store.
  2. Click on “Shipping & Pickup” and select the shipping option that you need to change the zone on.
  3. Locate “Delivery zone.”
  4. The steps to change this depend on how the zone is set up:
    1. If you used a map, locate “Zone on map” and click “Edit Zone.” Drag the zone as desired or add multiple zones to select multiple delivery locations.
    2. If you used a country/state/postal/zip code, click “Advanced settins” and pick another zone from the list. Alternatively, you can click “Create new zone” if you haven’t added the new zone to your store yet. Then once this is created, simply locate it in the list.
    3. If you need to update an existing zone (e.g., add ore remove an area from within it), select “Manage zone,” click on the zone name and edit accordingly.

Note: these changes will apply globally; the updates will apply to all other shipping options that use that zone.

Destination Zones in the UK

There is no standard list of UK countries that can be used for the store; instead calculate shipping rates using county name and postal code.

This option will ensure that when customers check out and select the UK as the “Ship to” country, the State (i.e., the County) will be displayed as a text field instead of a drop-down list. Customers can then input their county name here. If there is a typo customers will receive a warning and won’t be able to proceed until they enter a valid county name.

To minimize the inconvenience to customer of typing their county out, consider leaving the list of States/Counties in the UK zone settings empty and use postal codes to restrict the zone. This will allow you to restrict zones by postal code and offer different rates/area in the UK.
